Artist Retreat

These days, every artist needs a time and place to get away.

Our Phantom Canyon Ranch Retreat is for artists who want a quiet, contemplative getaway surrounded by fresh air, open land, stream bottoms and wildlife. Our historic ranch compound includes a bunkhouse guest apartment, which includes a sitting room, bedroom, kitchenette, ¾ bath and a porch. There is a large library of art books for your perusal and plenty of plein air opportunities in a supportive, creative and private environment. A retired rancher and inventor, Carl has been a plein air painter for forty years, and Sarah, likewise, a potter for forty years. Together, they can provide that mixture of support and solitude to get your creative batteries recharged.

Several young people work part-time in the pottery and on the ranch, tending animals and the vegetable garden (in season). Wildlife sightings may include wild turkeys, eagles, blue herons, beaver, owls, deer, foxes and coyotes.

Located 25 miles north of Fort Collins, Colorado, this property is surrounded by foothills ranch-land and preserved open space, easily accessible from a maintained county road, just 3/4 mile west of State Highway 287. Nearby is the Cache la Poudre River with its world-class trout fishing and public trails, the Nature Conservancy’s Phantom Canyon Preserve, Eagle’s Nest Open Space, Cherokee Park State Wildlife Area and Roosevelt National Forest, the Drala Mountain Center and Soapstone Open Space.

Limit two participants at a time. Flexible schedule. For more information, please call Carl Judson at 970-217-5759.
