Barbara Noonan

by Sarah Judson September 23, 2013

Artist and instructor Barbara Noonan has been evolving toward the abstract, while keeping an intentional and expressive feel. Working in pastel over watercolor, she is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and the Northwest Pastel Society. "It’s taken years for me to carefully study and then paint the light and shadows but they often felt overworked. Distillations is my latest series leaning towards the abstract. I’ve purposely paired down my strokes of soft pastel over a watercolor wash to provide only the essential information; creating a sense of place." She will be offering a class next month at her studio in Seattle, entitled Introduction to Pastels and Materials, which includes a variety of pastels, papers, tools and techniques.
