Dennis Hare - by Carl Judson

by Carl Judson October 16, 2012

Dennis Hare is a well known west-coast painter, whose plein air and studio paintings have strong roots in the Bay Area Figurative tradition. His works are being featured at Westbrook Galleries in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, through the end of October. Their statement reads in part, "Dennis Hare's work reflects the soul of things simple, imperfect, humble. Fabrics, scraps of newspapers and other "found objects" sculpted under the surface of the thickly applied oil paint create a palpable work of art in which the materials themselves are something of a symbol for the human experience." Their site also includes a video of his work with members of the Boys and Girls Club of Monterey County. If you are anywhere in the area, this exhibit is a treat worth going out of your way to see. More than 20 years ago (before I quit selling my paintings) Dennis and I both showed our work in the Campbell-Thiebaud Gallery in San Francisco. - Carl Judson
