Master Pastelist and instructor Aline Ordman looks for abstract shapes by allowing light and shadow to define the forms, and then lets the image emerge. This painting (above), entitled Awaiting the Dinner Crowd, was accepted in the 13th Annual National Juried show of the American Impressionist Society. This scene (left) is a demo from a workshop in Tuscany last year. “My goal as an artist is to find those times and places where beauty is not only evident, but startling and suddenly present. A flicker of light on a shoulder, a splash of sun on a summer hat, flakes of light in a stand of maples, a shower of late afternoon sun on a hillside – these are the moments that attract me.” She has a blog where she posts her recent paintings along with thoughts about locations, composition and technique. She also works in oils, and, when not traveling, is inspired by the New England landscape in which she lives.by Staff Account June 26, 2024
