Kathryn Law

by Sarah Judson November 29, 2011

Kathryn Law has been a professional artist since 2002 when she completed a BFA in Painting at Oregon State University (magna cum laude and with distinction). She has also studied in masterclasses and workshops with Stuart Shils, Mark Kerckhoff, Peggi Kroll Roberts, Ray Roberts, and Camille Przewodek. She is currently (the first!) Artist in Residence at Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma near San Diego. This 144 acre park commemorates the landing in 1542 of the Portugese explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. She will be offering a 1-day workshop there in January, focusing on how to simplify the landscape by seeing the large shapes and values. Shown above is a 10x8 oil painting entitled "Searchlight Shelter." You can see more about it at her blog. Below is an 8x6 oil sketch entitled "End of Cabrillo Point" which is not far from where Cabrillo made landfall.
