Cathleen Rehfeld, Daily Painter

by Sarah Judson August 01, 2011

This can go into the category of "Simple doesn't mean easy." Daily painter Cathleen Rehfeld chooses ordinary everyday objects from the kitchen, street or farmer's market and turns them into art. Most of her painting is done on a 6"x6" panel on a dark undertone, with confident brushstrokes and contrasting colors or values. "I like the creamy color intense luscious look of oil paint. I like making brushstrokes that bring out that quality in the paint. I try out new ideas, new colors, new subject matter from day to day, because of the small format. It is very freeing to be able to paint something and get it out relatively quickly." She has links to her book, her eBay store, a video and her blog.
