5th Annual Door County Plein Air Festival

by Sarah Judson June 20, 2011

Next month (July 18-24) brings the fifth annual Door County Plein Air Festival, a fund-raiser for the Peninsula School of Art involving six days, forty nationally recognized artists, a Dockside Quick Paint Competition, workshops, many free events and a juried exhibition and sale on the final day. Door County, Wisconsin, is a 75-mile peninsula surrounded by the waters of Green Bay on the west and Lake Michigan on the east. It has more than 300 miles of shoreline, beaches, bluffs and woodlands. Ten working lighthouses still stand watch along its harbors and 40 islands. Shown here is a painting from last year's event by Wisconsin artist Kathie Wheeler entitled Roof Dwellers.
