We enjoyed a conversation today with Connecticut artist Jane Penfield, who was awarded *four* Guerrilla Painter gift certificates at the recent Connecticut Pastel Society annual member exhibition.
She offers instruction and commissioned artworks in addition to originals, limited editions and open editions.
Her painting Abundance (below) was selected to be included in Pastel Journal's 18th Annual Pastel 100 Competition and will be featured in the magazine's April issue.
Having worked professionally as a choral director before becoming a full-time artist, she observes, "Like meeting a long-lost relative, I recognize the same elements familiar to me in music: composition, form, tonality, harmony, counterpoint, rhythm, and dynamics. Good habits of study and practice are essential. Painting, like conducting a choir, involves starting from scratch, observing, identifying problems, fixing them, and always trying to make it better, in order to create and present something beautiful in the end."
