Maine

Maine

We received a thank-you gift from Michael Vermette, who organizes plein air watercolor workshops each year for the Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership students of the Friends of Baxter State Park and the Acadia Maine Youth Conservation Corps student workers of the Friends of Acadia National Park in Maine.

Maine has a proud plein air history, going back to Winslow Homer and the Wyeth family, and these groups of young people go painting at some of the same historic sites. We were happy to help make these workshops possible.

The poster, signed by each of the participants, is a print of "The Artist Sketching at Mount Desert, Maine" by Sanford Robinson Gifford, one of the leaders of the Hudson River School.

Michael says,  "In many ways, this plein air workshop has become the one activity that these students look forward to each year in their conservation and preservation activities and programs."
