Pochade Boxes

The traditional 19th century pochade box is a self-contained portable studio, designed to carry all the basic necessities to paint on location and to transport wet paintings home. It is designed to be held in the hand or on the lap, depending on its size.

Modern pochade boxes have been adapted to include a camera tripod mount. This creates a lightweight palette/easel that can be taken out in the field. Often a bag with supplies will be carried with it as well as the camera tripod.
