We enjoyed a conversation recently with artist and instructor Henry Finkelstein, whose energetic color and brushwork make his paintings really sing. He spent a year in Provence when he was twelve, and after studying at the Cooper Union and the Yale School of Art, he went to Italy and now paints regularly in Brittany, France.

“I paint directly out-of-doors. But I don’t believe there is one truth to the light and color that is there, rather it is a light which I sense for myself while I paint. I can often find colors by listening to them, by attributing certain sounds to each color.”
