Debra Joy Groesser

Last week, Carl enjoyed meeting the President of the American Impressionist Society, Debra Joy Groesser,  when he stopped by the Hot Shops Art Center in Omaha. Shown here are three of her plein air paintings, which, although small (8x10 and 9x12), are nevertheless effective in catching the vibrant light. As a member of Laguna Plein Air Painters, Plein Air Artists Colorado and the Missouri Valley Impressionist Society (among other organizations), she often travels to paint. These paintings were done in the U.S. southwest. "Impressionism is more about spontaneously capturing a moment in time, an "impression" of the subject, by carefully observing and quickly rendering the effects of light on the subject, the colors, the atmosphere, movement. Impressionist paintings are representational with visible brushstrokes but without a great amount of detail."
